Old Town Avondale

Originally named Coldwater, Avondale started out as a stagecoach stop in the early days. The heart of Old Town is Western Avenue; a pedestrian-friendly street featuring locally-owned small businesses, unique and award winning restaurants, cultural and urban art, festivals, and eclectic building-scapes that run the stretch from Central Avenue to Dysart Road. As the historic core of Avondale, it is a part of the Valley that holds a truly nostalgic charm.

This Town Never Gets Old

ART

Old Town, is certainly the ‘main drag’ for colorful street art. The half mile stretch showcases dozens of commissioned murals, public art sculptures, and pop up events, which highlights an urban art vibe all its own to this area of the Valley. Murals and public art adorn the streets, alleys and on sidewalls of the local businesses and speaks to the cultural identity of this walkable part of the city.

Mi Familia (Family)

Old Town Avondale is a great place for all ages. Deconcini Park, Doc Rhodes Park and Sernas Plaza have been long time focal points for citywide events. Park amenities invite little ones to play, and a local branch of the Avondale Public Library engages everyone to check out a book. For years, Western has been the hub for the long-running and beloved Billy Moore Days Parade, art fairs, cultural festivals and car shows.
