Over 175 people attended the 2021 Memorial Day Ceremony to pay tribute and honor those who have served. Avondale’s very own Deputy Fire Chief, Aaron Glass, performed “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes, and Interim HR Director, Darcy Lowery, was the emcee for the service. Bobby Jones, Commander VFW Post 40, was the keynote speaker and delivered a heart-moving speech. Mayor Weise addressed the crowd with inspirational words and thanked partners. In addition, Council Member Tina Conde, Council Member Curtis Neilson, and City Manager Charles Montoya were in attendance.
Partners and groups supporting the Avondale Memorial Day Ceremony were the Crandall-Palmer American Legion Unit 61, VFW Pat Tillman Memorial Post 40, the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, Scottish American Military Society Post 48, Blue Star Moms, Gold Star Mothers, Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, West Valley Youth Orchestra, and The West Valley View.
